Struer, Denmark – Bang & Olufsen has begun offering a software upgrade that adds Spotify’s on-demand music-streaming service to the company’s $6,324 BeoSound 5 two-piece digital music system.
The system plays back music from multiple sources, including its own hard drive and 14,000 Internet radio stations. It also plays music via AirPlay, DLNA and stereo Bluetooth.
Girard, Ohio — SVS Sound, the high-performance home-audio supplier known for its extensive lineup of subwoofers, has expanded its fledgling lineup of full-range speakers.
The $499-each Ultra Bookshelf speaker, $599-each Ultra Surround and $699 Ultra Center join the $999-each Ultra Towers announced earlier this year.

Portland, Ore. — Triad Speakers upgraded its in-wall Bronze/4 SlimSub active subwoofer but maintained the speaker’s $1,400 suggested retail, which includes a 350-watt rack-mount amplifier.
The sub’s improvements include a flush-mount 3.94-inch-deep enclosure that doesn't protrude several inches from the wall as its predecessor did. The upgrade also adds a long-throw 10-inch aluminum driver and a round steel back plate to replace a thick MDF back plate, making more room for the driver to reach full extension, the company said.
Elmont, N.Y. – Morel will add to its Octave series of home speakers with the April shipment of the three-way Octave 6 floor-standing speaker and two-way Octave 6 bookshelf speaker at a suggested $6,500 and $3,500/pair, respectively.
The speakers will join the Octave Signature, which comes with three-way configuration when upgraded with a subwoofer.
Washington – Definitive Technology is voluntarily recalling SuperCube2000 powered subwoofers built in September 2012 because of a potential shock hazard, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced.
About 900 units manufactured in September 2012 with serial numbers containing the characters 0912HB are covered by the recall, the commission said. Definitive has received two reports of consumers who were shocked while handling the unit, the commission said.
Lawrence, Kan. – MartinLogan is expanding its selection of custom-installed bezel-less speakers with the shipment of its Helos 12 and Helos 22 in-ceiling speakers.
“There are other speakers in the MartinLogan architectural line with bezel-less design, but MartinLogan has never offered it in their more affordable in-ceiling designs,” a spokesperson told TWICE.

North Reading, Mass. — Hi-fi supplier Bowers & Wilkins is expanding its selection of AirPlay-equipped speakers with the launch of two models, which are also its first two digital media speakers with Apple’s eight-pin Lightning connector.
Both new models are equipped with Wi-Fi, AirPlay and the Lightning connector, which enables docking with the iPhone 5, fifth-generation iPod Touch and seventh-generation iPod Nano. Neither model is physically designed to dock with the iPad Mini, which also features Lightning connector.
San Jose, Calif. – THX Ltd. sued Apple in federal court here, alleging that Apple is using patented THX speaker technology in select iOS mobile devices and in iMac PCs, Bloomberg reports.
Peterborough, Ontario — High-end audio supplier Bryston is diversifying from electronics to speakers in a big way with plans to offer eight models.
The lineup includes two floor standing speakers, a stand-mount speaker, an active subwoofer, two center-channel speakers, an in-wall speaker and an on-wall speaker.
Three models are already shipping and will be followed by additional models in May and in the third quarter.
