ENGLEWOOD CLIFFS, N.J. – LG Electronics has begun shipping a new line of microwave ovens featuring enhanced performance features and premium designs.

New features include convection and sensor cooking, an over-the-range (OTR) venting system, and a special pizza baking drawer. The new additions are available in OTR and countertop models and in a variety of finishes.

HUNTINGTON BEACH, CALIF. – Fisher & Paykel’s DCS brand will introduce an enhanced counter-depth French door refrigerator that utilizes the company’s “ActiveSmart” sensorcontrolled technology and features an automatic ice maker, chilled and filtered water, and deeper door bins for larger items.

The Energy Star-rated fridge is slated to ship in December and will carry a suggested retail price of $3,199.

The latest DishDrawer iteration will be released under both the Fisher & Paykel and DCS by Fisher & Paykel badges.

HARTFORD, WIS. – Broan-NuTone has added a fourth model to its Broan Evolution line of range hoods.

Like its predecessors, the new QP4 was designed to provide premium features at attractive prices to today’s cost-conscious, time-crunched builders and contractors, the company said.

Available in 30-, 36- and 42-inch widths, and white, black, stainless-steel and bisque finishes, the new QP4 also features a 630 CFM blower that, at 7.5 sones at the highest setting, is the quietest in the Evolution line.

SEOUL, SOUTH KOREA – Young-Ha Lee has stepped down as president/CEO of LG Electronics’ digital appliance unit after seven years.

He was succeeded by Moon-bum Shin, executive VP and head of LG Home Appliances’ overseas marketing division.

The change was prompted by underperformance within the majap division, according to published reports.

LAS VEGAS — LG is unveiling an extralarge capacity three-door refrigerator (model LFX31935) this week at International CES that features a proprietary “blast chiller” feature.

The quick-chill technology allows the 36-inch refrigerator to cool off a 12-ounce beverage can in less than five minutes, compared with the 40 minutes required by a typical refrigerator, even within in the freezer compartment, LG said.

WILMINGTON, DEL. – The U.S. district court in Delaware has affirmed a March 2010 jury finding that LG side-by-side refrigerators infringe Whirlpool’s patented in-door ice dispenser technology.

The court also expanded its ruling by finding that LG French-door models infringe Whirlpool’s patent as well, and that certain LG refrigerators infringe a second Whirlpool patent on strengthened refrigerator cabinets.

WASHINGTON — The summer appliance slump is evident in the latest wholesale data from the Association of Home Appliance Manufacturers (AHAM), which shows a 4 percent decline in unit factory shipments last month.

But the figure, which reflects a nearly 22 percent boost in AC shipments amid record-setting heat throughout much of the eastern U.S. last month, masked continuing weakness in the industry’s core categories.
