BENTON HARBOR, MICH. — Whirlpool is recalling about 1.7
million dishwashers that present a possible fire hazard.
The voluntary recall affects more than 30 plastic-tub models
manufactured between February 2006 and April 2010 under
the Maytag, Amana, Jenn-Air, Admiral, Magic Chef, Peforma
by Maytag and Crosley brands.
According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission,
electrical failures in the dishwashers’ heating elements
have led to 12 reported fires that damaged the units and, in one
case, destroyed a kitchen. No injuries have been reported.
