Maytag Touts 'Commercial Grade' Laundry

Whirlpool's Maytag division is emphasizing the "commercial-grade elements and technology" found in its residential laundry products as it promotes its Performance, Bravos, Centennial and Epic Z series of washers and dryers.

"To offer the highest quality technology to our residential consumers, we incorporate commercial-grade components. The result is Maytag-brand appliances are built to last," said Ellen Taaffe, Maytag mass brands VP, at a media event here last month.

Englewood Cliffs, N.J. — LG Electronics USA has introduced a self-diagnosis tool for clothes washers and dryers that allows customer service reps to troubleshoot mechanical issues over the phone.

The new technology, dubbed SmartDiagnosis, allows consumers to press select buttons on the laundry unit to trigger a series of diagnostic tones. Each tone corresponds with a specific potential maintenance need that can be identified by service technicians over the phone.

BENTON HARBOR, MICH. — Whirlpool unveiled a host of new laundry pairs last week, including an updated Duet platform and a new Maxima front-load line for Maytag.

Duet, which helped usher in the front-load washer category within the U.S. nearly a decade ago, has been retooled for even great energy and water efficiency in advance of anticipated higher federal standards.

NEW YORK — Haier America will begin shipping its first front-load laundry line for the U.S. market this month.

The competitively priced platform consists of two models, the opening-price HWF5000AW and the step-up HWF5300AW, priced to hit suggested retails of $640 and $799, respectively. Both feature a smooth-edged modern chassis design with a large front glass window and easy-grip door handle, have 4.3 cubic feet of capacity, and are Energy Star rated.

NEW YORK — Samsung has formally rolled out its latest spate of kitchen and laundry products for 2011.

Many of the majaps, including a Wi-Fi-enabled refrigerator with preloaded apps, were first shown to the trade at International CES in January.

NEW YORK – Thirty-five percent of laundry-pair print ads offered instant rebates from January through July, an increase of 6 percent year over year, according to research by IFR Monitoring.

While the average price of a washer and dryer pair dropped during the seven-month period, to $980 from $1,013 in 2010, instant rebates, or IRs, continued to rise both in frequency and value, providing further incentives for consumers, the research firm found.
