HP To Include WebOS In All PCs

NEW YORK — Hewlett-Packard CEO Leo Apotheker said HP will include WebOS capability with all its PCs by next year.

Apotheker said this in an interview with Bloomberg News.

Apotheker said including WebOS will create vast user base for the mobile OS and encourage developers to create WebOS apps. He did not specify how WebOS would be incorporated into HP’s other platforms.

NEW YORK — Nvidia has dropped the price on its 3D Vision kit by $50 and is in the process of updating its GeForce graphic card line.

Effective March 15, the Nvidia 3D Vision kit will carry a $149 suggested retail; this is the first price reduction for the product since it was introduced two years ago, the company said.

Nvidia, last week also introduced its new entry-level graphics card, the GTX 550 ti. It will carry a $149 suggested price.

LAS VEGAS — Netgear’s 2011 International CES introductions will reflect the growing importance of shifting entertainment content around the home.

Netgear plans to introduce seven products at the show this week, including routers, powerline networking adapters, Wi-Fi range extenders and a TV Internet adapter. The company also plans to celebrate its 15th year in the networking category.

LAS VEGAS — Lenovo will show off its first consumer and business tablets at International CES.

The company will also introduce new models into its consumer IdeaPad lines of laptops and all-in-one computers.

Nick Reynolds, Lenovo’s global marketing director, product group, said consumer and business tablets would be included among the introductions. However, he declined to reveal any details by press time.

Lenovo was much more forthcoming with information regarding its notebook and desktop CES plans.

LAS VEGAS — Nvidia said at International CES it has gained the licensing rights and is working in partnership with Arm to develop a CPU based on Arm’s processor architecture.

Dubbed Project Denver, the processor will have an Nvidia CPU running the Arm instruction set. These will be integrated onto the same chip as an Nvidia graphics processor unit, said Jen-Hsun Huang, Nvidia’s CEO and president.

LAS VEGAS — Buffalo Technologies introduced its new CloudStor and USB 3.0 storage solutions earlier this month at International CES.

The CloudStor uses the PogoPlug cloud service to allow users to access their data from anywhere, yet the content resides on the device not in the cloud, the company said. PogoPlug maintains a secure connection between the device and whoever is designated to access the information.

The CloudStor will ship in February, with the 1TB version carrying a $169 suggested retail and the 2TB model costing $269.

SANTA CLARA, CALIF. — Intel reported its GAAP net income climbed 167 percent to $11.7 billion in 2010, for the period ending Dec. 31.

This hike took place on revenue of $43.6 billion.

The company also posted a fourth-quarter GAAP net income increase of 48 percent to $3.4 billion on sales of $11.5 billion.

Intel cited a 21 percent increase in revenue for the PC client group, with Atom microprocessor and chipset revenue up 8 percent, or $1.6 billion, for the year.

SAN FRANCISCO — The puzzle that is the tablet PC category will remain largely unfinished in 2011, with Apple’s iPad being the only piece solidly in place.

This situation is expected despite the entry of computer heavyweight Hewlett-Packard into the tablet PC mix last week, according to industry analysts.

PALO ALTO, CALIF. — Hewlett-Packard has revamped its Pavilion notebook and Touchsmart all-in-one line

The new models are the dv7 and dv6 and the company added the new G series, a value notebook line.

HP updated its TouchSmart PC line, incorporating a new reclining feature for the display.

The dv6 and dv7 share the same basic feature set with the former model featuring a 15.6-inch display and the latter a 17.3-inch screen. Each has USB 3.0, an optional Bluray player and come in a dark umber finish.
