A roundup of some recent news in the flash-memory world:

Transcend debuted its 600x CF cards, which feature Turbo MLC technology. Transfer speeds are listed as 92MBps read and 87MBps write. Each card is said to feature built-in error-correction code, which detects and corrects errors during data transfer. The cards are offered in 8GB and 16GB capacities. Pricing wasn’t available at press time.

Super Talent launched a line of Pico mini USB drives that are offered in capacities from 2GB to 16GB. The drives reportedly measure 1.3 inches by 0.6 inches by 0.1 inches and weigh 1.5 grams. Transfer speeds are listed 200x and they are said to be water resistant. Four colors are offered: pink, green, blue and black. Prices range from $9.99 to $39.99.

Edge Tech introduced several products to its DiskGo line, including a 128GB flash drive and two portable hard drives with backup software. The 128GB DiskGo flash drive ($389) features an aluminum casing and CryptArchiver Lite encryption software. The portable 2.5-inch and 3.5-inch hard drives come with Dmailer Backup software, a built-in USB cord and a three-year warranty. Capacities for the 2.5-inch model range from 80GB to 500GB and are priced from $69.95 to $114. The 3.5-inch model has capacities from 80GB to 1TB and ranges in price from $79.95 to $149.

The company also launched a new generation of flash drives to the DiskGo line that measure 1.5 by 0.9 inches. They come in 1GB, 2GB, 4GB, 8GB and 16GB models and range in price from $12.95 to $54.95.

SanDisk is running a cellphone video contest that lets consumers win up to $5,000. The 60-Second Summer Mobile Phone Video Contest asks contestants to submit videos, taken with the cellphones, that capture “the sights and sounds that make your summer buzz.” The contest runs through Aug. 31, but videos can only be submitted until Aug. 10. One $5,000 prize will be given away, along with five $1,000 weekly prizes. The top 25 weekly finalists will win a SanDisk memory card, MobileMate micro reader and a t-shirt. Entries should be submitted at www.youtube.com/sandisk.
