CEDIA Expo Has A Varied Appeal

9/05/2008 08:47:00 AM

CEDIA Expo has always been described as the “custom installation” show but it is a lot more than that.

For dedicated custom installers and upscale A/V suppliers CEDIA Expo is a vital event on the calendar. But this event, which moves from Denver to Atlanta next year to get more space, attracts more attention.

Broadline CE manufacturers use it to introduce or display cutting-edge technology, for example Hitachi’s UltraThin (1.5 inches thick) plasma TV.

And a recently-merged company (Sirius XM) and a new chairman/CEO (Masao Kawabata of Pioneer Electronics) made their debut here.

These are a few of the people and products I saw in my trip around the show floor:

Sharp’s display of its 108-inch LB 1085 full HD 1080p LCD at its booth.

Hitachi’s Daniel Lee with his company’s 1.5-inch UltraThin plasma TV, which is due next year

David and Daniel Pidgeon of Starpower Home Entertainment told me their fourth store, and first outside of Texas, a 10,000-square-foot location in Scottsdale, Ariz., will open in early November.

My first sighting at a trade show of the Sirius XM logo on a booth since the merger was completed.

Masao Kawabata, the recently named chairman/CEO of Pioneer North America, was here, posing in front of the PRO-151FD 60-inch Kuro brand 1080p HDTV
