LaserVue Rollout Begins With A Bang

Rancho Mirage, Calif. – Furniture and A/V electronics dealer Legacy Home Furnishings, based here, was among a handful of West Coast retailers that Mitsubishi selected last week to launch the first LaserVue DLP rear-projection sets in a staggered rollout.

Mitsubishi’s 65-inch L65-90, which stands as the new flagship of the Mitsubishi TV line, will gradually roll out to more stores across the country in coming weeks.

Tom Campbell, Legacy/Linders Home Furnishings corporate director, said the store’s launch of the 65-inch set

sold out its initial allotment of the $6,999.99 LaserVue sets within hours. Additional sales are on back order. Far from suffering the impact of the recent stock market freefall, Campbell said sales of electronics at the home furnishings chain were strong and outselling even core furniture lines.

The in-store LaserVue event drew camera crews and reporters who witnessed demonstrations of 3D movies as well as 2D 1080p images.

LaserVue technology is based on a new long-lasting laser lighting system that replaces more conventional UHP lamps. The sets produce more than double the color and contrast of many other HDTVs on the market, and use significantly less power to operate than comparably sized LCD and plasma displays.
