CEDIA Quotes, Notes

September 6, 2007

There were a few good quotes during CEDIA Expo’s press conference day on Wednesday that I heard and I’d like to share.

“TV… is the dashboard of the home.” – Mike Seamons of Exceptional Innovation, talking about the capabilities of its Life/ware home automation/entertainment system. Some might say it is the notes on the refrigerator of many Americans, but you get where he’s coming from.

“Sell Regza and prosper.”– Scott “Captain Kirk” Ramirez of Toshiba, during his “Star Trek” themed press conference on Tuesday which among the highlights is a HD DVD special edition of the first season of the original series.

“You get better movie experiences at home than you do in the theater… which is sad.” – Movie director/producer Barry Sonnefeld at Sony’s press event extolling the virtues of Sony’s HDTV and home theater lineups, and feeling badly about the technical quality of watching movies at a movie theater.

“No one has ever seen a hockey puck go into the net. Sure, you’ve seen the red light and the players celebrate, but you never seen it. Now with HDTV you can…. with HD you can’t believe it.” –Sonnefeld again at Sony’s press conference.

At the PRO Group’s Dave Workman discussed how his group gets profits from HDTV sales, saying they “ride the ‘Five Horsemen’… and sell: Audio, Furniture, Installation, Accessories and Warranties. We are working on all five things.”

And during the PRO Group reception I saw Tweeter’s ex-president/CEO Joe McGuire briefly exchanging pleasantries with founder Sandy Bloomberg at the PRO reception. I never got to Joe to ask him what his future plans are. At least on Wednesday, but tomorrow’s another day.
