Independent Dealer Doc Needs Your Support

February 4, 2011

Documentary film producer Steve Kosareff is planning a chronicle of the demise of U.S. TV vendors as told through the eyes of independent dealers. The project, “TV Man: The Search for the Last Independent Dealer,” compares the extinction of American manufacturers like Motorola, RCA and Zenith to the struggles of independents like Poma TV in Ukiah, Calif., and Williams TV in Oroville, Calif., amid market domination by national big-box chains.

“The story is as timely today as it was then,” Kosareff said.  “President Obama’s recent agenda at APEC, a Pacific Rim trade conference of nations, did not garner any support for U.S. trade concerns. The lack of international cooperation he faced has its roots in what happened to the American television-set industry 30 years ago.”

For the production to proceed, Kosareff must raise $133,000 to fund principal photography over 21 days in six Midwestern states where TV manufacturing had once flourished.
