Mitsubishi's Star Power

September 2, 2009

While TWICE covers Mitsubishi’s audio and video products, the company is involved in other projects that are, or will be, literally out of this world.Mitsubishi has teamed up with IHI to work on a plan developed by the Japanese government to construct a $21 billion orbiting solar-power station capable of generating 1 gigawatt of electricity and beam that power back to Earth. This is enough electricity to power 294,000 homes.

The two companies plan to work out a way to beam the electricity back to Earth in four years, and the Japanese government hopes to have a working prototype in space by 2015.

There are more then a few hurdles to overcome to make this project a reality. For the complete story, click here.
