Fiorina Steps Into Politics

August 19, 2009

Former Hewlett-Packard CEO Carly Fiorina is laying the groundwork to take on Sen. Barbara Boxer (D-Calif.) in 2010.According to a story today in the San Jose Mercury News, Fiorina, a Republican, has filed paperwork with the Internal Revenue Service to create a political bank account. Creating this account allows her to begin raising money for her campaign.

Fiorinia is quoted as saying: “I have received a great deal of encouragement to make a run for the Senate in 2010 from people across the political spectrum.” Today’s filing “is a logical next step in the process of evaluating running for this office.”

Fiorina headed HP for six years, finally being fired by the company’s board of directors. Her tenure included the controversial purchase of Compaq Computers.
