Digital Vinyl

March 2, 2009

For turntable enthusiasts who still haven’t made the complete transition to digital — or who don’t want to purchase a turntable-converter device — independent music retailer Wild Rufus Records offers a unique solution, as highlighted in this Fortune article. Consumers can purchase a vinyl version of certain albums, and it comes with pass codes that enable them to download the MP3s as well.

This is a brilliant idea but why not do it right. YEP records gives
you the digital download right away when you buy the vinyl online
great deal, i get the digital for my ipod and background listening,
and the vinyl for when i want to listen critically

Vinyl rules!!! Nothing renders music more accurately, and while I
admit they're more bothersome when it comes to playing them, LP's
still deliver the goods. Vinyl can impart the overtones in the
music that, while you don't actually "hear" them, add to the warmth
of the music. Digital loses those. Remember the early detractors of
CD? That was precisely their complaint. So if vinyl starts making a
comeback, count me in.
