Blu-ray Price Mania Starting Already?

September 22, 2008

Black Friday is apparently coming early for the Blu-ray Disc category as new low price points popped up on the Web this week.

Memorex helped to get things rolling by listing it’s first Blu-ray Disc player at a $269 street price — one of the lowest prices on the market for a newly introduced player.

The product was being sold through the Memorex Web site and will be distributed through retail stores by November.

Model MVBD-2510 incorporates BonusView Profile 1.1 capability but is not BD-Live compatible. The player features 1080/24p video output and will support decoding of Dolby TrueHD, DTS-HD High Resolution and Master Audio and Dolby Digital Plus up to 7.1 channels as PCM over HDMI. The player also includes up 5.1 channel analog audio outputs, and an HDMI output supporting bitstreams of all the advanced codecs.

Other features include support of BD-ROM, DVD+ROM, DVD-R/DVD-RW, DVD+R/DVD+RW, CD-ROM, CD-R/CD-RW and JPEG on DVD/CD recordable media.

Meanwhile, Amazon.com Monday was posting Sony’s BDP-S300 Blu-ray player at a $199 special offer. The closeout model has been replaced by the BDP-S350.
