New York Cutoff Test Tonight

October 28, 2008

The National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) issued a reminder to New York City area residents that an analog-TV shutoff test of 13 metro-area broadcast TV stations will begin tonight at 5:59 p.m.

The stations will simultaneously turn off their analog signals for two minutes and air a message informing viewers that their sets are not digital-ready. This is part of a series of tests organized by ION Media Networks and other broadcasters.

Meanwhile, Omaha-area residents have been given a 24-hour hotline they can call to get help applying for converter-box coupons, finding converter-box retailers and installing the equipment.

The effort, which is being coordinated by the United Way of the Midlands, has designated 2-1-1 for DTV transition assistance.

The program will send out trained volunteers to help viewers install converter boxes. The coalition hopes to take this program statewide.
