HP's Nationally Historic Garage

January 24, 2007

I’m not sure if the proposal to list on the National Register of Historic Places the garage where William Hewlett and David Packard established their company will mean that the neighborhood will be flooded with techies lining up to catch a glimpse of HP’s birthplace, but even if traffic is light I still think it’s a pretty good idea.

After all Menlo Park and Kitty Hawk honor Thomas Edison and the Wright Brothers so why not a little spot for Bill and Dave?

The site is already a California Historic Landmark and the garage and its house have been refurbished to their 1938 condition, the year the HP partnership was made. So why not give it national landmark status?

For a quick look, check out this HP historical Web site.
