PMA Blogging: Numbers
January 29, 2008

Skimming the industry-related figures for 2007 and forecasts for 2008, it looks like another year of growth for the imaging industry — macroeconomic setbacks notwithstanding.

CIPA (Japan’s Camera and Imaging Products Association) released its outlook for 2008. Seeing as this is PMA week and people may be in the mood, I cut and pasted some bullet points for your edification:

* “The outlook in 2008 is for continued growth at a slightly decelerating rate with sales and forecasts to reach approximately 111.95 million units [worldwide], representing a year-on-year increase of 11.58 million units or 11.5 percent.”

* Point-and-shoot cameras are forecasted to reach approximately 102.81 million units (up 10.7 percent).

* Digital-SLR units are expected to reach 9.13 million units (up 22.3 percent).

* Interchangeable-lens unit sales are expected to reach approximately 14.67 million units (up 17.2 percent).

PMA also has some interesting numbers on online and retail printing here.

As if that’s not enough, we also have a report in the current issue of TWICE with some industry-related figures and analysis. Print readers get the added benefit of charts. Enjoy (if that’s the right word).
