Tech Users Studied

Whenever you see the words “typology” in the title, you know you’re in for an exhaustive look. And Pew Research’s A Typology of Information and Communication Technology Users (pdf) delivers just that in 65 pages fact-filled pages.

Here are the top line findings:

  • 8% of Americans are deep users of the participatory Web and mobile applications
  •  Another 23% are heavy, pragmatic tech adopters – they use gadgets to keep up with social networks  be productive at work
  • 10% rely on mobile devices for voice, texting, or

entertainment

  • 10% use information gadgets, but find it a hassle
  • 49% of Americans only occasionally use modern gadgetryand many others bristle at electronic connectivity.

There’s good information to be gleaned about how people view their technology. Have a look.
