The CE Industry: Much More Than Low Price
January 17, 2007
Another International CES has come and gone and while those of us who were there saw a lot of the future, I am more impressed with what I saw of the past.Everywhere you looked there were reminders of the industry’s past embodied in 40 years of the show itself.
The consumer electronics industry has always worked hard to decrease prices, quite often I feel, too much so to the point of cheapening the value of what is really quite remarkable technology. Rarely, if ever, are consumers reminded of how much more they can now do relative to what was possible in the past.Indeed, have you thought about how things were in 1967, the year of the first show, in comparison with today? When it comes to how we communicate, process information and are entertained, absolutely everything we do as well as the way we do it, is light years different not to mention better.
So to Gary Shapiro, Karen Chupka and all those who worked so hard producing the show, thank you not only for helping us to see where we are headed but for reminding us of where we have been.
