Chicago – Regional carrier U.S. Cellular plans to offer iPhones for the first time on Nov. 8, but the company declined to say if the products would be available through the indirect channel on that date.
The carrier will offer the iPhone 5s, 5c and 4s on that date. Details on distribution and pricing will be announced “closer to the launch date,” a spokesperson said.
The carrier had previously declined to offer iPhones because of their high subsidy costs, but a spokesperson now says that “the decision to sell iPhone products is right for our business today because we now have an LTE solution that enables a successful partnership with Apple.”
In order to offer the devices, U.S. Cellular “accelerated the repurposing of some of our 850 MHz spectrum for 4G LTE,” the spokesperson added.
Last week, the carrier announced its first shared-data plans.
