Los Angeles — The digital content locker system known as UltraViolet is soon coming to movie lovers in Canada, the Digital Entertainment Group (DEG) said Tuesday.
The UltraViolet system, which enables consumers to pay one price to purchase movies or television content and have those titles be accessible by multiple devices, has already successfully launched in the United States and the United Kingdom.
The service will move on to Canada in the fourth quarter with three studios participating: Sony Pictures Home Entertainment, Universal Studios Home Entertainment and Warner Home Video.
UltraViolet is currently available in thousands of retail locations across the U.S. and U.K. bundled with DVDs and Blu-ray Discs, and with UltraViolet digital sell-through and disc-to-digital options also available via select U.S. retailers.
UltraViolet accounts in the U.S. recently surpassed 5 million registrations.
With their Cloud-based digital collection, UltraViolet enables consumers to access their movies and TV shows both at home and on-the-go, across a variety of apps and services, as well 200 million devices in the U.S. — including PCs, mobile devices, smartphones, connected TVs, Blu-ray Disc players and more.
The DEG said deployment plans will be announced in the coming months for additional international markets, including Australia, New Zealand, Ireland, France and Germany.
