Irvine, Calif. – Toshiba today added three portable computing devices to its line, including the 8-inch Encore Windows 8.1 tablet.
Joining the Encore is the Satellite Click laptop/tablet hybrid and the thin and light Satellite NB15T laptop.
The Encore, shipping in November at $329, is 0.42 inches thick and weighs just more than 1 pound. It features a 1,280 by 800 multitouch display optimized for video. It is powered by an Intel Atom processor and has 32GB of storage and a MicroSD slot capable of handling an additional 32GB. Also, included are MicroHDMI and USB ports.
Toshiba hopes the Encore will help boost Microsoft’s presence in the tablet category.
“Encore is poised to re-energize the opportunity for Windows tablets in the market,” said Carl Pinto, marketing VP, Toshiba America Information Systems.
The Satellite Click is a detachable tablet/laptop hybrid with a 13.3-inch display. It runs an AMD A4 APU and has Radeon 8000 graphics, 4GB of memory and a 500GB hard drive built into the removable tablet. There are batteries built into each section of the device.
This is Toshiba’s first detachable device to use an AMD processor.
Starting this month the Click will sell exclusively through Best Buy and Toshiba Direct for this holiday season with a $599 price tag, which Pinto said will place the Click well within the financial grasp of most consumers — something that was lacking with the company’s earlier detachable models, he said.
The NB15t compact laptop is geared toward the price-sensitive customer looking for a thin and light computer.
It has an 11.6-inch touchscreen and is powered by an Intel Celeron dual-core processor. Specs include a 500GB hard drive; Ethernet, USB 3.0 and HDMI ports; and an HD webcam. The NB15t will ship with Windows 8 in November with a $379 suggested price point.
