New York – Toshiba today introduced a new networked attached storage device called the Canvio NAS.

The Canvio will launch with apps for Android and Apple that will directly connect those portable devices to the NAS enabling users to have full access to all their content.

Jacky Lee, Toshiba’s product manager, digital products division, said this creates a personal cloud environment adding that unlike true cloud storage there is no monthly fee for using the Canvio NAS and consumers will have the peace of mind knowing the data is safe in their home.

Lee said the company went to great lengths to make setup simple. There is a three step process to install the software and the interface resembles a widget more so than traditional storage software.

This  Canvio is Toshiba’s first NAS device. Previously the company focused on portable external storage devices.

The Canvio NAS will come in 2TB and 3TB configurations with respective $219 and $249 suggested retail prices.
