Concord, Mass. – TomTom revealed the pricing and ship dates of its first two solo-branded GPS sport watches, unveiled earlier this year in Europe.
The TomTom Runner is available at prices starting at $169 through TomTom, www.Amazon.com, www.BestBuy.com and will be available soon at Best Buy, Specialty Running, and other sporting goods retail locations. The TomTom Multi-Sport watch, designed for triathletes, will be in stores in July starting at $199.
The water-proof sport watches feature an extra-large, high-resolution display said to be viewable in bright sunshine. They use low-power Bluetooth Smart technology to connect to Bluetooth Smart Heart Rate Monitors and other sensors. The watches will be compatible with Apple mobile devices incorporating the new iOS7.
In the sport watch market, TomTom had previously teamed up with Nike, which makes the Nike+ SportWatch Powered by TomTom. The new TomTom Runner and TomTom Multi-Sport watches are TomTom’s first solo-branded devices in the sports market.
Both new models feature what the company said is the industry’s first one-button control to make it easier for users to access information. Both 11.5mm-thick watches use built-in sensors to monitor pace and distance during indoor runs and on treadmills, and both are said to be waterproof in water up to 50 meters deep.
They also feature 10-hour battery in GPS mode, scratch- and impact-resistant glass display, and ability to sync, analyze and share stats on popular running sites and community platforms, including the TomTom MySports website, MapMyFitness, RunKeeper and TrainingPeaks.
TomTom Multi-Sport adds the ability for multi-sport athletes to track distance, time, speed and other key metrics when cycling or swimming. It also features built-in barometric altimeter to track elevation, ascent, and grade; swimming motion sensor to check swim metrics such as laps, strokes, time and speed; and cadence sensor to track cadence, speed and distance indoors and out. It also feature bicycle mount.
