Denver — Home-automation newcomer Tio came to the CEDIA Expo to announce October and November shipment dates for most of the major components of its wireless multizone audio and wireless home-control system.
The brand, a first-time Expo exhibitor owned by Automated Control Technology Partners (ACTP), is launching products that deliver Wi-Fi-based music streaming and multi-zone audio along with Wi-Fi control of light switch/dimmers and thermostats. The systems can be controlled from Android mobile devices, in-wall Wi-Fi touchscreens and, later this year, iOS mobile devices.
The $599-suggested SS-1 wireless in-wall amplifier/streamer is planned for October shipment. The device, which fits in a single-gang box and can be hidden behind a blank wall plate, can be used to replace an in-wall volume control in an existing entry-level custom multi-room-audio system. It incorporates 2x50-watt amp, built-in music decoders, Wi-Fi and wired Ethernet, and streaming of music from networked PCs and from Cloud-based music services. It can also amplify audio from a central stack of audio components when used to upgrade an existing multi-room-audio system.
Other amp/streamer features include Bluetooth streaming and an optical audio input, used for amplifying local sources such as TVs.
All amplifier/streamers can be controlled from mobile devices or from a 7-inch in-wall color touchscreen that also fits in a single-gang box and incorporates its own amplifier/streamer. The touchscreen ships in October at $799.
A 4-inch version of the touchscreen ships in November at $699.
Also in October, Tio will ship a $249 Wi-Fi-equipped light switch/dimmer to control and dim lights, including LED light dimming. The light switch/dimmers can also be controlled from mobile devices and Tio’s touchscreens.
The tablets and touchscreens will also control a Wi-Fi thermostat, due in February.
The brand’s parent, ACTP of Orlando, is headed by industry veteran Mike Anderson, formerly with at 3vNet and Russound. The company is also in the commercial and health-care-facility control systems markets.
