Overland Park, Kan. — Sprint priced LG’s curved-screen G Flex at $299 with two-year contract and plans Jan. 31 availability through its website, telemarketing and business-sales channels.
The phone will be available in Sprint stores Feb. 7. Availability through indirect channels wasn’t available.
Carriers T-Mobile and AT&T have also said they also plan first-quarter availability of the LTE-equipped phone, which is the first curved-screen phone available in the U.S.
The smartphone features a 6-inch P-OLED 1,280 by 720 HD screen that curves to match the contours of the face to improve call quality, fit in a back pocket, and provide more immersive video viewing, LG said. A new Dual Window feature displays separate applications in two windows so users can drag-and-drop information between windows.
New and existing Sprint subscribers can preorder the phone starting today on the web, and anyone who preorders between now and Jan. 31 will get a free Quickwindow Folio Case valued at $59.
Sprint’s version of the phone is equipped with Sprint Spark, which combines 800MHz, 1.9GHz and 2.5 GHz LTE to initially deliver data speeds of 50Mbps to 60Mbps. Sprint Spark is available in 11 cities, but Sprint plans to deploy it in about 100 of America’s largest cities during the next three years. By the end of this year, Sprint expects 100 million Americans to be in range of Spark cell sites.
Consumers who buy a G Flex in a Sprint-owned store get the option to participate in the carrier’s new Sprint Easy Pay for Phones program, which lets users pay for an unsubsidized version of the phone over 24 months. Eligible customers would make a down payment of $149 and 24 payments of almost $21 for a total of $649. These users get the option of keeping their old phone or selling it to Sprint under the company’s Buyback program.
The phone is also eligible for the company’s new Framily Plan, which lets subscribers designate up to nine other people considered family to get discounted service pricing.
