Overland Park, Kan. — Sprint expanded its 4G LTE service to 11 more markets, bringing the number of markets with LTE service to 43.
Sprint began launching LTE in July and has said that by the end of 2013, it will offer LTE service in markets reaching 250 million people. Sprint’s 3G footprint reaches 282 million people.
Within the markets that went online today, Sprint will expand coverage in the coming weeks and months, the company added. The new markets are Anderson, Ind.; Clarke County, Va./Jefferson County, W.Va.; Harrisburg/Carlisle/Hershey, Pa.; Hagerstown, Md./Martinsburg, W.Va.; Harrisonburg, Va.; Muncie, Ind.; Peabody, Mass.; Salina, Kan.; Shenandoah County, Va.; South Bend/Mishawaka, Ind.; and Winchester, Va.
With the LTE rollout, Sprint is also upgrading its 3G network to deliver better signal strength, in-building coverage, fewer dropped/blocked calls and improved voice quality, the company noted. The 3G enhancements are available to all Sprint 3G customers in the upgraded areas, including those subscribing to Sprint’s prepaid brands: Assurance Wireless, Virgin Mobile and Boost Mobile.
