New York -- Sony today began taking preorders for the latest addition to its flagship X headphones line.

The X05 on-ear model features 40mm drivers and neodymium magnets to produce a frequency response of 4 to 24 kHz.

The headphones have a 1.2-meter flat cord with a built-in mic, and an inline remote with volume control and track control (play, stop, next/prior) for Apple products. The cord has a serrated finish to reduce tangles.

They weigh just over 8 ounces, ship with a compact carrying case and come in black and red, silver and black, silver and white, or silver and red.
