Samsung Kids Tablet Hits Market At $229

New York — Samsung’s first kids-oriented tablet, the Galaxy Tab 3 Kids, became available at $229 at Samsung.com, Best Buy, Fry’s, Office Depot, Sam’s Club, TigerDirect and Toys“R”Us.

A Tab 3 Kids hard-case bundle is available at $249.

The 7-inch tablet’s only preloaded kids-oriented reading app is the Barnes & Noble Nook App for Kids, and consumers who purchase the tablet and register for a new Nook account get more than $50 in free kids eBooks and magazines.

The Nook App for Kids complies with the U.S. Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA).

The tablet also comes preloaded with the full Nook for Android app for use in standard mode, which parents can use to obtain a traditional Android tablet experience and access to the Google Play store.

The tablet was unveiled in August without pricing or shipping dates.

The Wi-Fi-equipped tablet features 1.2GHz dual-core processor, 1GB RAM, WSVGA 1,024 by 600 RFT display, 8GB internal memory plus 32GB MicroSD slot, Wi-Fi 802.11a/b/g/n with dual-band N, Wi-Fi channel bonding, Wi-Fi Direct, Bluetooth 3.0, 3-megapixel main camera, 1.3-megapixel front camera and 4,000 mAh lithium-ion battery. It measures 4.37 inches by 7.4 inches by 90.4 inches and weighs 10.65 ounces.
