Edison, N.J. — Sakar International said this week that its Polaroid-branded iM1836 Android-powered compact system camera (CSC) is available exclusively through Amazon and Walmart.
The Polaroid CSC, which launched at International CES 2013, is said to offer DSLR quality and flexibility with the simplicity, affordability and convenience of a point-and-shoot camera.
The iM1836 carries a $299 suggested retail price for the body only and features a Micro Four Thirds sensor, a 3.5-inch LCD touchscreen and interchangeable lenses.
At launch, the camera will have access to an optional 10-30mm optical zoom lens, and later in November a 500mm telephoto lens. A 50mm lens in planned for an early 2014 release.
The camera is equipped with an Android 4.1 operating system, and features built-in peer-to-peer Wi-Fi and installed photo sharing apps allowing direct uploads to Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Flikr, Vimeo and other online networks and storage sites.
The Polaroid iM1836 also features access to the Google Play store to more than 600,000 apps and games.
The camera’s Wi-Fi also pairs with any enabled device to upload images and video through a mobile phone, PC or iPod Touch device.
Other features include auto blink detection and auto face exposure, detachable flash, built-in wide-angle panoramic capability, 1080p HD video capture and built-in HDMI output.
“This camera has generated tremendous buzz since it first debuted at CES this year,” said Sakar president Jeff Saka. “Now, we’re thrilled to see it hit store shelves, just in time for the holiday season, making it perfect for capturing precious family memories and for gift-giving.”
