Center Valley, Pa. – Olympus unveiled Wednesday the new flagship model in its Stylus point-and-shoot camera line – the 40x Ultra Zoom SP-820UZ iHS.
The compact camera, which will be available in September at a $330 suggested retail, features a 40x optical zoom lens (equivalent to 22.4- 896mm on a 35mm camera), which can be doubled to 80x with the company’s Super-Resolution Zoom digital zoom technology.
At its widest angle, the SP-820UZ iHS’s will capture panoramas, group portraits and up-close macro images.
The lightweight body is small enough for everyday travel and features a sleek ergonomic comfort grip.
The camera employs Olympus’s iHS (Intelligent, High-Sensitivity and High-Speed) technologies, a high-sensitivity 14-megapixel CMOS sensor, TruePic V image processor, which is said to enable sharp images of fast-moving subjects and quality low-light scenes.
Other features include high-speed, adjustable-frame rate FullHD 1080p video capture (240fps HSQVGA).
Photos can be taken with video clips before, and after taking the shot.
Also included is Dual Image Stabilization and Multi-Motion Movie Image Stabilization to minimize camera shake when shooting at great magnification, linear PCM audio recording, HDMI output and remote control of playback functions and camera menus features.
Low-light shooting is accommodated using Hand-Held Starlight mode that captures multiple images and stitches them together into a single, sharp, perfectly exposed image without the use of a tripod. HDR Backlight Adjustment captures a collage of images at various exposure levels and blends them into one, perfectly exposed image.
The camera also adds Olympus’ Beauty Make-up mode that enables applying anything from eyeliner to eye shadow and blush to the image.
Smart Panorama mode creates sweeping still photos automatically, by knitting together shots taken in sequence from up to a 360 degree field of view.
A host of creative in-camera Magic Art Filters like Pin Hole and Pop Art enable users to apply spectacular effects to all of life’s adventures both with stills and in video mode.
The camera will be available in a choice of silver and black body colors and is compatible with Eye-Fi cards. It ships with a camera strap, lens cap, USB cable, A/V Cable, 4 AA batteries, Quick Start Guide, and instruction manual.
