New York – Sales in the United States of Sony’s PlayStation4 entertainment console topped Microsoft’s Xbox One in the month of January, a new report from the NPD Group revealed.
Exact numbers were not revealed, but reports said the PS4 results more than doubled its closest rival in the month.
NPD said the Xbox One took a strong No. 2 position in video game sales, but sales of the Xbox One and 360 together accounted for 47 percent of game sales, with the Xbox 360 registering as the most popular system for five of the top 10 software releases.
Sales of the Nintendo 3DS and Wii U grew by six and 26 percent, respectively, from the prior year.
Last month the Xbox One was the top seller with 908,000 system sales, but January is considered a key month, since it was a non-holiday period, and the both systems had ample supply availability.
