Melville, N.Y. – Nikon stepped up the mid-range of its DSLR lineup Thursday with the introduction of the D7100 featuring a 24.1-megapixel APS-C DX-format sensor.

The camera will go on sale in March carrying a $1,199 suggested retail price for the body only and $1,599 for the camera and 18-105mm DX VR kit lens.

Nikon’s D7100 offers pro-level durability features including weather sealing, a magnesium alloy body and a 150,000 cycle rated shutter.

It will capture up to 6fps (7 fps in 1.3x crop mode) in continuous shooting mode, has a 100-6400 ISO range (expandable to ISO 25,600), 51 AF points (15 cross-type points), center cross-type point AF at f/8, Full HD 1080/60i/50i/30p/25p/24p video capture, 720p/60p/50p video capture, EXPEED 3 image processor, 3.2-inch 1,229,000-dot LCD monitor, and 100 percent viewfinder coverage.

The camera will be compatible with Nikon’s WU-1a wireless mobile adapter, and will include dual SDXC card slots (UHS-I compatible), built-in HDR, headphone output and uncompressed HDMI output.

Like the D800, the D7100 also omits and optical low pass filter.

Additionally, the D7100 is equipped with a new, optional 1.3x DX crop, which increases the angle of view by approximately 1.3x the standard DX-format angle of view for an effective 2x increase in the overall crop factor.

The D7100 also has a new Spot White Balance feature that allows measuring white balance based on a specific portion of the frame.
