San Jose, Calif. — Netgear introduced this week a pair of cable modem routers including the N600 dual-band Wi-Fi (C3700) and the N300 Wi-Fi cable modem router (C3000).
The two-in-one devices integrate a Docsis 3.0 cable modem for faster Internet access and an N300/N600 high-speed 802.11n Wi-Fi router.
The N600 Wi-Fi cable modem router (C3700) has a $129.99 suggested retail and the N300 Wi-Fi cable modem router (C3000) carries a $99.99 suggested retail. Both are available now.
Both cable modem/routers support the Netgear Genie app, to enable easy installation and management while boosting the Internet connection for smoother streaming of HD videos, movies and music, and allowing more responsive online gaming, and faster file downloads, the company said.
The routers are said to enable faster broadband speeds available via cable while eliminating monthly modem rental fees.
They integrate an 802.11n Wi-Fi router with a built-in high-speed 8x4 CableLabs-certified Docsis 3.0 cable modem.
Docsis 3.0 is the next generation of the data over cable services interface specification, which enables cable operators to deliver significantly faster data speeds to the home.
A Docsis 3.0 8x4 cable modem offers download speeds up to 340 Mbps, eight times faster than the previous version, Docsis 2.0.
Both of the two new cable modems support eight download and four upload channels simultaneously, which facilitates HD video streaming, fast downloads, and high-speed online gaming.
The N300 supports Wi-Fi speeds up to 300 Mbps on the 2.4GHz band. The N600 offers simultaneous dual-band networking, reducing Wi-Fi interference and doubling bandwidth, while supporting speeds up to 300 Mbps on the 2.4 and 5GHz bands.
The system features easy set-up of parental controls and guest access and allow users to attach a USB hard drive to the Netgear ReadyShare-enabled USB port on the cable modem router.
Each model comes equipped with Gigabit Ethernet.
Netgear said its cable modems and cable modem routers are CableLabs-certified and compatible with most major U.S. cable Internet providers, including Cablevision, Charter, Cox, Time Warner Cable, and Xfinity/Comcast.
