Redmond, Wash. – Microsoft will host a series of midnight launch events at 10 Microsoft retail stores across the nation to launch the Surface 2 and Surface Pro 2 tablets.
On Oct. 21, starting at 10 p.m., the stores will host a Surface Challenge that offers contestants a chance to compete in interactive games to win a trip to Orlando, Fla., the next morning for the grand opening of the Mall at Millenia store, where Pitbull will perform. Attendees have been encouraged to register in advance at the Microsoft Store Facebook page.
Also at the events, contestants will get a chance to win dozens of other prizes as well as be among the first to check out the tablets before they become available to the public on Oct. 22.
The rest of the more than 70 Microsoft retail stores will also hold events and giveaways to celebrate the Surface launch. The company said it would post details at MicrosoftStore.com as they become available. Consumers can also visit the stores to get details.
The 10 stores participating in the midnight events are at Bellevue Square Mall (Bellevue, Wash.), Westfield San Francisco Centre, Scottsdale Fashion Square, Dadeland Mall (Miami), Lennox Square Mall (Atlanta), The Shops at Prudential Center (Boston), The Westchester (White Plains, N.Y.), The Domain (Austin, Texas), The Fashion Centre at Pentagon City (Arlington, Va.), and Oakbrook Center Mall (Oak Brook, Ill.).
