Redmond, Wash. — Microsoft plans Feb. 9 availability of its Surface Windows 8 Pro in the U.S. and Canada at an estimated street price of $899 for the 64GB version with bundled Type Cover.

Pricing on the 128GB version with Type Cover wasn’t disclosed.

The 10.6-inch Wi-Fi tablet, promoted as delivering Ultrabook performance and full Windows desktop functionality, will join the Surface Windows RT tablet at all Microsoft retail stores,, Staples and Best Buy stores in the U.S.

The new Surface runs the Windows 8 Pro OS, which supports Windows 8 and Windows 7 desktop applications and features Intel Core i5 processor. The Surface RT, which also features 10.6-inch touchscreen, uses the Windows RT OS, which is the Windows 8 OS designed for ARM-based tablets.

Microsoft also plans to expand distribution of the Surface Windows RT tablet in 13 more countries to more than double the number of markets in which it is currently available.

In another announcement, Microsoft said it will make the Surface Windows RT available in a 64GB version without bundled pressure-sensitive Touch Cover keyboard at an estimated $599, giving consumers the option of selecting a Touch Cover in the color of their choice.

When Microsoft launched the Surface RT last October, it priced the 32GB version at $499 without Touch Cover keyboard, $599 for the 32GB version with black Touch Cover, and $699 for the 64GB version with black Touch Cover.

Touch Covers are priced at $119 each if purchased separately. The Type Cover, with clicking tactile keys and track pad, costs $129 if purchased separately. Both double as a tablet cover and are available in multiple colors.

Three new Touch Cover Limited Editions will also be available in red, magenta and cyan at an estimated $129.

Surface with Windows 8 Pro comes bundled with a pen that lets users jot down notes.

Surface RT became available in late October, and at the time, Microsoft said the Windows 8 Pro version would arrive about 90 days later.
