Englewood Cliffs, N.J. — LG is adding new features to its Optimus G Pro Android LTE smartphone via an over-the-air update that adds new functions and upgrades select existing functions.
The new functions include Smart Video, which intelligently recognizes the position of a user's eyes and automatically pauses a video when the user looks away. The video restarts when the viewer looks back at the screen.
The dual-camera capability simultaneously captures a photo of the subject and the shooter using both the front and back cameras and combines them to create a picture-in-picture effect. The phone already offered dual recording, which lets users simultaneously record video with both rear- and front-facing cameras.
Also new is pause and resume video recording, which lets users pause while in record mode and then restart the recording to create one continuous video file.
The update also turns the phone into a remote that works with LG smart TVs released in 2012 and later. The feature’s text keypad lets users input text into Smart TV apps.
Optimus G Pro is available exclusively from AT&T online at ATT.com/OptimusGPro and in stores for free with a two-year service agreement.
In other news, LG Display unveiled what it called the world’s slimmest FullHD LCD panel for smartphones.
The 5.2-inch panel is 2.2mm thick, and with 2.3mm bezel, it will provide for a larger visible display space on smartphones, the company said. The panel will also help manufacturers produce lighter weight smartphones and make smartphones easier to grip, LG said. The panel will also make devices easier to grip, lG said.
The 1,920 by 1,080 display delivers a maximum 535 nits of brightness, said to exceed that of all current mobile FullHD LCD panels, and an ambient contrast ratio of 3.74:1 based on 10,000 lux is promoted as delivering high contrast outdoors in strong sunlight.
