Berlin — LG Electronics will use IFA 2013, held here Sept. 6-11, to unveil its 55-inch wall-mountable Gallery OLED TV.
LG OLED model 55EA8800 is billed as a stylish flat-screen OLED TV offering an understated frame with powerful and unobtrusive canvas speaker system.
“Our Gallery OLED TV comprises the perfect blend of subtle beauty, unmatched picture quality and immersive sound,” said Havis Kwon, LG Electronics Home Entertainment president and CEO. “Challenging the status quo, this beautifully designed and engineered product is a clear example of our ability to think beyond the ordinary and provide consumers with a differentiated experience.”
The 55EA8800’s screen is bordered by a portrait-like frame that conceals a 2.2-channel sound system using LG’s new canvas speakers.
The speakers are disguised within a faux art mat to enhance deliver “rich, full-bodied audio.”
In keeping with the artistic theme, Gallery mode enables the user to view high-resolution digital images of paintings by legendary artists such as Vincent van Gogh and Paul Gauguin, LG said. Gallery mode also makes it possible to watch a slide show of one’s favorite personal or family photos.
The new set will join LG’s 55-inch curved-screen OLED TV on sale in the U.S. and Korea now, and its 55-inch flat OLED TV, introduced in LG’s domestic market only.
LG’s OLED TVs employ proprietary WRGB technology, which incorporates an additional white sub-pixel, enhanced image sharpness and detail.
LG’s slim and lightweight OLED TVs also produce a wide viewing angle.
LG said it will launch the Gallery OLED TV in Germany this month, followed by shortly thereafter. Pricing was not disclosed.
