Berlin – The battle for 4K TV supremacy between South Korea’s two largest TV makers landed on a new front here this week, with both companies revealing curved-screen Ultra High-Definition TV offerings.
LG Electronics unveiled what it called “the world’s largest Ultra High-Definition OLED TV,” measuring 77 inches and offering a curved screen. The set joins LG’s previously announced 55-inch curved OLED TV, which is on sale in the U.S. now.
Havis Kwon, LG Home Entertainment president and CEO, said: “This 77-inch TV is proof that we will never stop pushing the boundaries and exploring new possibilities.”
Samsung, meanwhile, showed a pair of curved-screen Ultra HD TVs in two models measuring 55 and 65 inches, respectively, although both appeared to be based on LED LCD TV technology and not the new OLED variety.
Samsung said it could expand its range of curved-screen sizes based on market demand.

Earlier at the show, Samsung debuted its new 98-inch Ultra HD screen, which is a cousin to the 110-inch S9 TV it unveiled at International CES in January.
At 77 inches, LG’s curved Ultra HD OLED TV is the largest OLED TV in the world.
The larger set was said to present an IMAX-like curvature to “fill the viewer’s field of vision more completely than a flat-screen TV.”
The set, again, uses LG’s WRGB OLED technology to produce infinite contrast ratio while the 4K resolution is four times greater than regular FullHD.
Executives on LGE U.S. side said the 77-inch curved OLED set will be available here next year.
