LG Readies Mini Version Of G2

Seoul, South Korea — LG will go to next week’s Mobile World Congress with its first mini version of an existing premium smartphone.

The G2 Mini with 4.7-inch display is a smaller version of the premium G2 with 5.2-inch display. It’s designed to bring most of the G2’s premium user-interface features to a broader audience via a mid-tier device, LG said.

The phone will be available in several variations worldwide, including single- and dual-SIM models, 3G and 4G LTE, and four color options.

The launch reflects a market in which premium devices offer display sizes larger than 5 inches and mid-tier devices feature displays around 4.5 inches, LG noted.

Other smartphone vendors such as HTC and Samsung already offer mini versions of their premium phones.

Like the G2, the G2 Mini features rear power and volume keys.

Key specs include Android 4.4 OS, 1.2GHz Qualcomm quad-core chipset for versions outside Latin America, 4.7-inch qHD IPS (960 by 540) display, 1GB RAM, 8GB memory, 8-megapixel main camera, 1.3-megapixel front camera, 3G HSPA+ 21Mbps, Category 4 LTE with Voice over LTE, Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi 802.11b/g/n, assisted GPS, and, on the LTE version, NFC.

User interface features carried over from the G2 include Guest Mode, Plug and Pop, Clip Tray and Capture Plus.
