Barcelona, Spain — LG Electronics outlined a four-tier smartphone strategy that it said would double the company’s 4G LTE smartphone sales in 2013.
The four tiers of Optimus devices are the G, Vu:, F and LII series. The flagship G and Vu: series target the premium segment, and the F and L series are positioned as more mass-market smartphones for 4G LTE and 3G markets, respectively, the company said.
The LG Optimus G series of flagship superphones already includes the Optimus G and Optimus G Pro.
The Optimus G was the first smartphone in the world to use Qualcomm’s Snapdragon S4 Pro quad-core processor, LG’s True HD IPS Plus display with Zerogap Touch technology, and such new user-interface features as QSlide, QuickMemo and Live Zooming, the company said.
The Optimus G Pro adds 5.5-inch FullHD IPS display and such new user-interface features as Dual Recording and Virtual Reality Panorama.
The LG Optimus Vu: series uses large screens to combine the portability of a smartphone and a tablet viewing experience. The Optimus Vu: features a 5-inch, 4:3 aspect ratio display, said to be ideal for viewing documents, e-books, multimedia content and web pages. The Optimus Vu: 2 has made its debut in the Korean market.
The LG Optimus F series, also equipped with LTE, was announced last week and includes the Optimus F5 and Optimus F7. Both are targeted to consumers making the transition from 3G to 4G LTE networks, and both are on display at the show.
For its part, LG Optimus LII series phones are designed to be stylish and surpass the aesthetic qualities of the previous L series. Their four key design elements consist of “seamless layout,” “laser-cut contour,” “radiant rear design” and a home button with Smart LED Lighting. The Optimus L3II, Optimus L5II and Optimus L7II are on display at MWC.
