Washington — LG Electronics said its newly introduced curved OLED FullHD TV has received Energy Star certification by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
The 55-inch curved OLED TV (model 55EA9800) joins the list of more than 125 LG-brand Energy Star-certified TVs on the market in 2013.
Among its energy-saving feature is LG's Intelligent Sensor, which automatically adjusts the display brightness according to the viewing environment.
According to the Federal Trade Commission's Energy Guide label, the LG 55EA9800 has an estimated yearly energy cost of $18.
“As a longtime leader in Energy Star-certified TVs, LG is proud that our innovative new curved OLED TV has been recognized, both for its unmatched performance and design and for its energy efficiency,” said Wayne Park, LG Electronics president and CEO. “This proves that with LG, it's all possible. Consumers don't have to sacrifice performance or style while cutting energy consumption and addressing climate change.”
“We are thrilled that LG has certified its OLED TV. This demonstrates LG's leadership, not only in the TV industry but also in advancing energy efficiency. The climate and consumers are both winners,” said Una Song, U.S. EPA's Energy Star consumer electronics program manager.
LG this summer is rolling out the OLED TV exclusively through select Best Buy Magnolia Design Center showrooms. The first went on sale last week at Best Buy’s flagship store in Richfield, Minn.
In the coming weeks, Magnolia stores inside Best Buy’s in Los Angeles, New York, Miami, Houston, Dallas, San Francisco, Chicago, Seattle and San Antonio will begin displaying and selling the ultra-thin sets for $14,999 each.
Global demand for OLED TV is expected to grow to more than 7 million units by 2016, according to DisplaySearch. LG is the first company to commercialize both the flat-screen OLED TV, which has been sold to consumers in Korea since February, and the innovative new curved OLED TV, available in Korea since April.
