Lenovo Reveals 2014 PC, Laptop Lines

Raleigh, N.C. – Lenovo introduced a new range of laptops and desktops to its PC portfolio Wednesday, including the aluminum-bodied A540 all-in-one (AIO), general computing B50 and G50 laptops, and the entertainment-focused Z50 laptop.

The company also added two models to its Flex family of dual-mode “convertible-like” laptops under the Flex 2 series, featuring 14- and 15.6-inch screen sizes.

“From A to Z, our latest Lenovo PC lineup gives people an incredible combination of performance, entertainment and value to help them get the most from their PC,” said Dilip Bhatia, Lenovo PC group worldwide marketing and design VP. “With devices ranging from slim and sleek all-in-one desktops to laptops built for the media maven, we’re offering a wide array of PCs so you can pick the one that’s perfect for you.”

The A540 AIO desktop offers an aluminum cabinet design and family-friendly audio and video features.

Models include a 23.8-inch FullHD (1,920 by 1080) In-Plain Switching display that can be positioned from -5 degrees to 90 degrees.

Models run Windows 8.1 and offer 10-finger touch support with 20 preloaded games and educational apps, and hands-free Lenovo Motion Control that reads 12 gestures to complete actions like muting the volume, advancing photos or playing videos. 

The A540 is equipped with Nvidia GeForce GT 840A graphics support, up to an Intel fourth-generation Core i7 processor, JBL speakers with Dolby Home Theatre, optional NFC to transfer files from compatible devices, and an optional TV tuner to watch TV programming right on the desktop.

Pricing for A540 AIO models start at $1,279.99 and will be available beginning in July through authorized retailers.

The B50 is Lenovo’s “affordable laptop” series targeting small businesses.

Pricing for models of the Lenovo B50 laptops start at $399 and will be available beginning in July via Lenovo retailers.

They include a 15-inch screen with multiple resolution options: 1,366 by 768 anti-glare touch display, FullHD 1,920 by 1,080, and HD 1,366 by 768. Models are based on Windows 7, and offer a selection of fourth-generation Intel Core i7 processors and optional Nvidia GeForce 820M graphics, or up to an A8 AMD processor and either AMD integrated or AMD Radeon R5 M230 graphics.

They also have a DVD burner/player, up to 1TB of HD or hybrid SSD storage, an optional fingerprint reader for security and Dolby Advanced Audio v2.

The G50 laptop series was also created for small businesses requiring more general-purpose computing.

The laptops feature a selection of processors, including an Intel fourth-generation Core i7 or up to AMD R5-M230, Windows 8.1, Dolby Advanced Audio v2, a DVD burner/player, an HD display and HD webcam. The models also include Lenovo’s VeriFace Pro facial-recognition software for secure log-on.

Pricing for models of the Lenovo G50 laptop starts $399 and will be available beginning in July.

The Z40 and Z50 series are entertainment-focused laptops offering thin and light designs and full multimedia capabilities. They come equipped with an optional FullHD 1,920 by 1080 display, a DVD player/burner, large storage options, Dolby Home Theatre and a 720p webcam.

The laptops run advanced processors ranging up to AMD’s highest-performance APU processor with up to R7 discrete Radeon graphics.

Pricing for Z-series models starts at $579. The Z40 will be available beginning in May, and the Z50 will be available beginning in August.

Meanwhile the new Flex 2 offerings continue to offer 360-degree flexibility while improving on the original models with an enhanced visual experience FullHD screen and discrete graphics models.

Models are described as affordable “convertible-like” PCs with laptop and stand models. Each includes new optional FullHD screens and discrete graphics.

Available screen sizes include 14 and 15.6 inches. The black or silver Flex 2 laptops offer 300-degree hinged-screen design and optional backlit keyboards.

Included on select models is a FullHD widescreen display, a choice of an Nvidia GeForce graphics on models with up to fourth-generation Intel Core i7 processors or optional AMD Radeon R5 M230 discrete graphics, and up AMD A8 APU processors with on-chip Radeon graphics.

Flex 2 models add Dolby Advanced Audio v2 technology, optional dual-array digital microphone and 720p HD webcam.

Three storage options are offered ranging up to 1TB of HD capacity or hybrid SSHD storage or up to 256GB SSD storage, and long battery life.  

The Flex 2 models offer “convertible-like” operation, with conventional clamshell “laptop” and tablet-like “stand” user modes.

By flipping from laptop screen into stand mode, the keyboard rotates 300 degrees behind the screen to stand the screen up for movie watching and other purposes.

Pricing for 14- and 15.6-inch Flex 2 models starts at $799 and $429, respectively. They go on sale in June through Lenovo retailers and  Lenovo.com.
