Cupertino, Calif. — Seagate Technologies has expanded its flagship LaCie-brand Thunderbolt series of external hard drives in a big way — 5TB big.
The three new LaCie Thunderbolt 5TB, 7,200 rpm single-drive models are said to be the highest capacity portable drives available on the consumer market.
Also new is the 5big Thunderbolt five-bay RAID model delivering 25TB of storage, aimed at photo and video professionals. It features read/write speeds up to 785MBps when attached to a Thunderbolt-enabled computer such as the newest Mac Pro models, fast enough for videographers editing 4K content, the company said.
The Thunderbolt drives boast the same footprint as previous 4TB models.
The new capacities are also available on the LaCie 2big Quadra and d2 Quadra storage solutions. All products are available now at the LaCie Online Store and through LaCie resellers.
LaCie professional storage solutions are protected by a three-year limited warranty that includes complimentary web-based resources, in-house technical support and worldwide repair/replacement coverage. Warranty extensions and Advance Care Option can also be purchased.
