London – Huawei is promoting its newest smartphones as the world’s thinnest with only 0.24 inches (6.18mm) in depth.
The Android 4.2.2 Ascend P6 features 1.5GHz quad-core processor, 2GB RAM, 8GB embedded memory, 32GB MicroSD slot, metallic body, 4.7-inch high-definition in-cell display, and 8-megapixel main BSI camera with f2.0 aperture, 4-centimer macro view and 1080p video capture. Other phone features include 5-megapixel front-facing camera, 2,000 mAh battery, and MagicTouch technology that enables consumers to use the touchscreen while wearing gloves.
The 4.23-ounce phone also features the company’s battery-optimization and power-saving technologies to improve performance by more than 30 percent compared with smartphone batteries of equal size, the company said. AirSharing capability lets users connect to a range of devices to share documents or play smartphone games on a TV with minimal lag time, Huawei added.
It also comes with Huawei’s Emotion UI, which among other things offers panoramic shoot and facial-recognition photography functions.
The P6 will ship in China in June and to Western Europe in July, “with other markets to follow,” Huawei said.
The W-CDMA/GSM phone lacks LTE but features HSPA+21Mbps cellular-data technology. A version with LTE would be likely for the U.S. if it comes to the U.S.
At International CES, the company showed Android smartphones with 5.1- and 6.1-inch screen sizes, 1.5GHz quad-core processors, 2GB RAM and 1080p video capture, but their U.S. availability hasn’t been announced.
At The Mobile World Congress in February, Huawei showed the Ascend P2 with 1.5 GHz quad-core CPU, 1GB RAM, 4.7-inch IPS HD 1,280 by 720 display and 8.4mm thickness thanks in part to the use of an in-cell touch display.
