GameStop Adds To Cellular Portfolio

Grapevine, Texas — GameStop is expanding its portfolio of cellular products with the addition of no-contract prepaid Net10 service in all of its 4,400 U.S. stores.

Net10 is not available through GameStop’s online store.

The announcement follows the launch late last year of a test in which the company’s website links to a site operated by Simplexity to offer new phones activated on the Sprint, T-Mobile and Verizon Wireless networks. Simplexity is an authorized dealer for the three networks. The site carries the GameStop brand at the top.

GameStop sells refurbished iPhones, iPods and iPads in its brick-and-mortar stores and online, and it sells new and pre-owned Android tablets in stores and online. The Android tablets include the Kindle, which is available new and pre-owned in stores and pre-owned online. Other available tablets include Acer and Asus models, Samsung’s Galaxy Tab 10.1 and Google’s Nexus 7.

The company also sells a refurbished Samsung Android Appeal smartphone in stores and online.

To get Net10 service, consumers bring their own AT&T or T-Mobile phones to the stores to add a Net10 SIM card. Consumers can also buy a refurbished AT&T iPhone in stores and add a Net10 SIM card. In select stores, the company is also testing the sale of multiple new Net10 Android smartphones, a spokesperson told TWICE.

Net10’s nationwide, contract-free service plans start at $50/month for unlimited minutes, text messages and mobile web browsing.

As part of GameStop’s “Re-Fun Your Refund” tax-season promotion, consumers can purchase a pre-owned phone for as low as $49.99 when paired with a Net10 SIM card and two months of service through Feb. 17.
