El Segundo, Calif. – DirecTV said Tuesday that both its iOS and Android phone and eventually tablet applications will be receiving voice search capability this summer.
The company said the app will conduct program searches by person, title, channel show time or genre, using spoken commands. Users can also change channels and make menu settings.
When the app is used outside of the home, users can set their DVRs to record selected shows, but when used within a home network, the app will call up search results on the television screen, while using the iOS or Android device as a voice-controlled remote.
DirecTV said it plans to beta test the system with subscribers before a formal roll out.
