Crestron Updates HDBaseT Extenders

Rockleigh, N.J. — Crestron shipped its first two HDBaseT HDMI extenders, the HD-EXT3-C and HD-EXT4-C, to support 4K resolution.

They are also the company’s first HDBaseT extenders that use standard CAT-5e/CAT-6 cable to transmit 1080p HDMI content up to 330 feet. To transmit 4K signals, the HDBaseT 1.0 devices use DM 8G+ shielded cable.

The company’s previous HDBaseT extenders used DM 8G+ shielded cable to transmit HDMI because “the first generation didn’t reliably support the use of standard CAT-5e or CAT-6,” said Dave Silberstein, Crestron’s commercial marketing director. “We and others in the market chose to resolve this issue by requiring the use of a shielded cable,” he explained. “Now, working with HDBaseT, Crestron has created the next generation of extenders that will even support 4K.”

Although the HDBaseT 1.0 spec supports 4K over CAT-5e/CAT-6, Crestron has its own reputation and quality requirements and chose to send 4K over DM 8G+ cable up to 230 feet, the company said

The company already supports 4K and CAT-5e/6 on its HDBaseT matrix switchers.

With the new HD-EXT3-C extender, Crestron offers HDMI audio and video transmission plus IR and RS-232 transmission. The HD-EXT4-C offers separate analog audio in and out to support DVI or other devices that don’t support embedded digital audio. The analog audio output of the transmitter can also feed a room amplifier or powered speakers.

Wall mount transmitters for each extender are available with black or white faceplates.
