Indianapolis – The number of exhibitors at last week’s CEDIA Expo rose slightly from last year, and overall attendance was down slightly, CEDIA statistics show.
More than 450 exhibitors participated in this year’s event, as did more than 16,900 attendees from 71 countries, CEDIA said. Last year’s show attracted more than 444 exhibitors and 17,600 attendees, the association said after last year’s show.
This year’s non-exhibitor attendance grew 4 percent over last year’s event, the association added. Among total attendees, 15 percent were first-time attendees. The association also reported that 90 new exhibitors and more than 80 home technology products debuted at CEDIA Expo 2012.
Among electronic systems contractor (ESC) attendees at the show, 80 percent said they were responsible for the final approval of, or make recommendations influencing, their company’s buying decisions, the association noted.
ESC attendees were well-educated in the business and delivered more leads than previous years, CEDIA said in quoting exhibitors. “The dealers that are here are better educated than I’m used to seeing,” said Michael Bridwell, Digital Projection marketing director, in a statement released by CEDIA. “I’ve definitely noticed a higher caliber of dealers. Instead of spending time introducing our brand, they’re already familiar with how projectors work and come with specific application questions.”
At the event, CEDIA offered 175 training courses, including manufacturer product training and IP-network education. A total of 22 courses were IP networking courses, and all were sold out, CEDIA said. Also at the show, the association launched a new credential called Residential Networking Specialist for installers.
Next year, the Expo returns to Denver, where it will be held Sept. 25-28. The trade show floor will be open Sept. 26-28.
