New York – Cambridge SoundWorks, the audio supplier that markets direct to consumers, plans to offer Bluetooth speakers, table radios, and a new sound base for TVs through high-volume online and brick-and-mortar retailers.
Cambridge will not make its in-room and architectural speakers available to other retailers, said president/CEO Craig McHugh at a CE Week, here. He acquired the company more than a year ago from parent Creative Sound Labs. McHugh was Creative’s president/COO when he purchased Cambridge.
The products targeted for sale through other retailers include a series of Oontz Bluetooth speakers, including a $49-suggested portable model and a $59 portable model available since last November. They’ll be joined by a $149 portable model, the Oontz XL, shipping in August with 20-watts of peak amplification. Oontz is positioned as offering the capabilities of similar speakers at half the price.
The company also plan retail distribution of a planned $199-suggested sound base for TVs, due in October at $199. Called the SoundBase, the product serves as a base for flat-screen TVs and incorporates speakers and amplification. It lacks video switching and Dolby Digital and DTS 5.1 decoding but features optical digital input, RCA input, and 3.5mm aux in.
Also coming to retailers are the company’s one-piece tabletop clock radio/music systems, including two networked models that feature vTuner Internet radio, Pandora, built-in Wi-Fi, DLNA for streaming music from DLNA-equipped PCs and mobile devices, Wi-Fi streaming from Apple mobile devices via an optional app, integrated iPod/iPhone dock, and color touchscreen. The Ambiance II retails for $349 without Bluetooth and $399 with Bluetooth.
Other products offered by the Woodside, Calif., company include 5.1 speaker systems, multimedia speakers, component stereo speakers, architectural speakers, and outdoor speakers.
